Beautifully written, holds the attention This is a beautifully written and well-paced story which holds the attention throughout. A young Englishwoman becomes governess to an aristocratic French boy. Gradually she comes to realise that the French family is not all it seems. The suspense builds up, slowly at first, then gathering pace towards the climax. Things are complicated by romance, but the book steers clear of the overly sentimental. In between are some beautiful descriptions of the countryside, included in a way which is relevant to the plot. The writing style is superb.

Good book but not edition as advertised! Given 3 stars as love the writing but don't order this if like me you had ordered it for the specific cover as shown. I was sent a completely different, cheap looking, edition. Will be returning as wanted it to go with others I have!

enjoyable charming, a bit plodding in the middle, but the dramatic ending makes up for it..the villains are really evil, the hero and heroine really brave and good, the main victim sweet and endearing...a very good blend of thriller and romance...perfect for a lazy day by the pool...

Nine Coaches Waiting I bought this book to replace my previous copy which I gave to someone to read and did not get it back. I have quite a number of Mary Stewart books already and I would recommend them. Mary Stewart's story telling is excellent.
