学校文法を復習したい人に適している 英和辞典『リーダーズプラス』で101 を引くと、━a [名詞に後置して] 《大学科目の》基礎(講座), …入門[概論], (…の)初歩[基本, イロハ,鉄則, 基礎知識]とある。Grammar 101 とは｢文法の基礎知識｣といった意味だろう。確かに初心者向きの内容が多いが、的を射た指摘もある。たとえば、代名詞の項では｢単数のthey｣(e.g. Everybody is seated and they are waiting for the plane to take off.)にも触れ｢まだ顔をしかめる人もいるが、普通になりつつある。究極的には｢単数のthey｣は文法の一部になるだろう｣といった趣旨のことを述べている（p. 131)。 コンピュータ組み版のせいか、活字は細くひょろひょろした感じで読みにくいが、挿入されている6ページのカラーページ（ウエブスター、ジョンソンなどの肖像画を含む）は美しくて目の保養になる。学校文法を復習したい人には適しているだろう。

Superb for writers/students I've been doing sports and humanitarian photojournalism for close to two decades now, and some punctuation and other grammatical points still cause snags every once in a while. I've paired this book and "The Best Punctuation Book, Period," which I also purchased from Amazon, and love the combo. This is an easy-to-understand reference for writers. It offers grammatical explanations as well as commonly misspelled words/incorrect substitutes. It's hardcover and very good quality that should hold up far better than a paperback. Of the two books, this is the one I grab first. However, if you are someone who has to write in various styles (MLA, AP, Chicago, etc.), the above-mentioned book will likely serve you better as it offers a breakdown of each rule based on the preferences of each style if they vary. I used MLA in school, but quickly shifted to AP for media releases and stories, and as I dabble in more long-form writing as a hobby, the various style references are helpful. It's a paperback, however, and not quite as easy to reference quickly IMO. BOTH books aren't needed, simply something I preferred. For general reference, this one is my pick, but for specific styles and versatility, "The Best Punctuation Book, Period" is the better option. A must-have for frequent or professional writers!

Accessible and short Unlike longer grammar books, this one is short and direct. These characteristics does not make it ideal for detailed study about grammar. But, these characteristics make it a very good reference. Also, the content is very accessible to kids.
