Wouldn't play This CD simply wouldn't play. Can it only be played on an MP3player please? Very disappointed.

Mildly interesting mystery The firs Inspector Wexford novel is a quite interesting story about an apparently very ordinary woman who is murdered, and how Wexford discovers there is a mystery in her past that may explain her murder. Although it is quite an intriguing story, the explanation of the mystery becomes apparent well before the end, so the ending isn't much of a surprise. And the victim remains a rather uninteresting character, despite her untimely end, it is never really credible that she could have been the object of such intense passion.

A assume the Wexford books improve! A bit of an odd fish. This is a beloved and successful series, so I assume they must get better. Will struggle on with the next in the series.

Not doon it for me any more On the death of Ruth Rendell, I sought this out to see what all the fuss had bee about. It's fairly gentle, and Wexford is clearly not yet fully formed. Obviously of its time, it hasn't really stood the test of time, as perhaps best symbolised by the supposedly shocking denouement, which today wouldn't raise the eyebrow of an infant (through no fault of the author!).
